Aiming to develop a sustainable Vietnamese agriculture and to support food supply for disadvantaged children, on August 30, in Ho Chi Minh City, Food Bank Viet Nam and the Vietnam Farmers Network launched the “Green Rice” project.
According to Mr. Nguyễn Tuấn Khởi – Chairman of Food Bank Viet Nam, the “Green Rice” primarily focuses on developing sustainable and environmentally friendly agriculture in Vietnam. Farmers who take part in the project, are encouraged to use environmentally friendly farming methods, ensuring that the quality of rice meets the highest food safety standards. This not only helps protect consumers health but also contributes to protecting natural resources and ecosystems.
Additionally, the project also plays an important role in creating a stable consumption market for agricultural products, thereby supporting the farmers’s finance. Through direct connection between farms and the local Food Bank Network, “Green Rice” helps reduce food waste and ensures that rice will be delivered to those who really need it in the community.
“The Green Rice project offers not only a humanitarian response but also a symbol of creativity that applies digital technology to develop a profitable and humane food system in the future, contributing to creating an equal and comprehensively developed society”, Mr. Nguyễn Tuấn Khởi commented.
According to Mr. Nguyen Tuan Khoi, the project’s feature is the use of technology through the GreenRice website and application. When using GreenRice, companies, farmers, and communities may effortlessly connect and collaborate with others. GreenRice not only establishes an efficient and open distribution network, but it also enables social protection services like as open houses and schools in mountainous areas in receiving early rice funding.
In emergencies such as storms, floods, and natural disasters, GreenRice serves as a guide map, assisting in the coordination and distribution of rice to impacted regions as fast and efficiently as possible. This guarantees that aid reaches the correct spot at the right time, reducing damage and assisting the community in overcoming issues.
The Food Bank Viet Nam also runs the “Rice for the Children” initiative in order to enhance nutrition and health for children living in particularly challenging conditions. The initiative focuses on children in 63 provinces and towns, particularly in hilly and ethnic minority areas.
In addition to providing rice, the program combines educational support activities such as scholarships, books, or organizing supplementary courses to improve children’s learning opportunities while also promoting the importance of community support and environmental protection; and encouraging community activities to build a strong support network.
