On the morning of July 26, the Red Cross of Binh Thuan Province, in collaboration with Food Bank Vietnam, launched the Binh Thuan Food Bank, also known as Food Bank Binh Thuan, and the Program to Support Vulnerable People in the province and surrounding areas.

Binh Thuan is currently facing numerous challenges in its socio-economic development. As a drought-prone region with a shortage of fresh water, it significantly affects agricultural production. Climate change has caused droughts, heatwaves, and irregular rainfall, which greatly impact crop yield and quality. Many farmers lack knowledge, skills, and advanced agricultural technology, leading to low productivity and product quality. The irrigation system, transportation infrastructure, cold storage, and processing facilities do not meet the needs of production and agricultural product consumption. Furthermore, agricultural products rely on intermediaries, leading to unstable prices and difficulties for farmers.

In response, the Red Cross of Binh Thuan Province has partnered with Food Bank Vietnam to establish the food bank to combat hunger, food waste, and environmental pollution. The aim is also to help local residents improve agricultural development. Each province where a Food Bank warehouse is established will serve as a point to receive and distribute food directly to people in difficult circumstances.

During the program, Food Bank Vietnam and the Red Cross of Binh Thuan Province distributed 50 gift packages to vulnerable individuals and families facing particularly severe difficulties in the province. Each package, valued at approximately 500,000 VND, aimed to uplift spirits, share compassion, and encourage recipients to overcome challenges and improve their lives.

Additionally, the program provided 120 nutritious meals and gifts to patients in need at the provincial general hospital. The upcoming “Bep Yeu Thuong” project, part of the Food Bank Vietnam Network, will be located there, offering free nutritious meals not only to patients in need but also to other vulnerable and homeless individuals in the area.
