On the morning of April 10th, the Kon Tum Provincial Red Cross Society collaborated with the Food Bank Vietnam to organize the launch event of the new warehouse and Food Bank community club in Kon Tum province and a program to support vulnerable individuals in the province and surrounding areas.
The warehouse and community club is located at 846 Phan Dinh Phung Street, Kon Tum City, Kon Tum Province. Its goal is to build a network of volunteers, mobilize cooperation and collaboration from local authorities, organizations, individuals, businesses, and residents to directly implement food support for vulnerable groups in the province.
The Food Bank Club Kon Tum aims to promote awareness and spread the habit of reducing food waste within the community, contributing to the mission of the Vietnam Food Bank to support those affected by natural disasters, diseases, poor households, ethnic minorities, orphaned children, people with disabilities, elderly individuals living alone, homeless individuals, and victims of Agent Orange, among others. The club also aims to establish community kitchens and compassion kitchens in the province.
During the ceremony, the Kon Tum Red Cross and Food Bank Vietnam signed a memorandum of cooperation to implement the program “Support and provision of food to people in difficult circumstances,” and distributed 50 gifts to vulnerable groups such as poor households, people with disabilities, and children in need in Kon Tum City.
The Food Bank Club Kon Tum will focus on raising awareness about reducing food waste in the community, with the goal of making each individual a smart food consumer to minimize negative impacts on the environment and resources. Through this, the club also believes that the volunteer network, with active participation and support from the community and partners, will become a model of compassionate activity, inspiring love and kindness and striving for a Vietnam without hunger and food waste.
According to Ms. Nguyen Hoang Truc Linh, the Executive Director of Food Bank Vietnam, this facility, once operational, will provide quick and effective support to people in difficult circumstances in the Central Highlands region.
Ms. Linh stated that in the near future, they will strive to develop community food banks in the provinces of the Central Highlands, contributing to ensuring food security and supporting vulnerable people.
It is known that the Food Bank Vietnam network currently has 9 community food banks and clubs in many provinces and cities: Ho Chi Minh City, Hanoi, Kien Giang, Ben Tre, Da Nang, Quang Binh, Quang Ngai, Hung Yen, and Thanh Hoa.
In 2024, the organization aims to expand its network to 20 community food banks and clubs nationwide. There will be a particular focus on expanding into highland areas and regions with many ethnic minority communities.
