The charity hunger-relief organisation Food Bank Vietnam on Saturday (January 8) launched its first Food Bank WareHouse in HCM City to collect discarded good food by grocery stores and food establishments and distribute to people in need.

Nguyễn Tuấn Khởi, founder of the Food Bank Vietnam, said food provided by supermarkets, food stores, restaurants, farmers, and businesses would be sorted out and stored at the warehouse and sent to shelters, orphanages and nursing homes across the country.

Additional warehouses will be set up in other localities in the future, Khởi said.

Food Bank hopes to expand this programme to help relieve hunger and also reduce food waste.

Its kitchen, dubbed Bếp Yêu Thương (Love Kitchen), prepares more than 1,000 nutritious hot meals every day using the ingredients given by donors.
