The Food Bank is not only a charitable organization but also an effective food management and distribution model aimed at reducing food waste.

On August 8th, the Vietnam Food Bank, in collaboration with the Ha Nam Red Cross Society, held a ceremony to launch the Ha Nam Food Bank to support food assistance for disadvantaged individuals and families.

Representatives of the Vietnam Food Bank and the Ha Nam Red Cross Society handed over the Decision to the Executive Board of the Ha Nam Food Bank.

The Ha Nam Food Bank is the 16th member of the Vietnam Food Bank network, established to support and improve food security and living conditions for local residents.

The main objectives of the food bank include ensuring the adequate and safe provision of food to those in difficult circumstances, particularly poor households, the elderly living alone, orphans, and families facing challenges in accessing food. Additionally, it aims to collect surplus or nearly expired food from sources like supermarkets, restaurants, and manufacturers to distribute to those in need, thereby reducing food waste.

Moreover, the food bank offers support programs, training, and counseling to help families escape poverty, improve their living conditions, organize educational activities, and raise awareness about food safety, nutrition, and the importance of maintaining a healthy diet within the community. It also collaborates with organizations, businesses, and individuals to build a robust support network that meets food needs and assists those in need in the community.

Ms. Nguyen Hoang Truc Linh, Executive Director of the Vietnam Food Bank, stated: “The Food Bank is not just a charitable organization but also an effective food management and distribution model aimed at minimizing food waste and ensuring that valuable food resources reach those who need them most. Establishing and operating a local food bank is no easy task. Challenges will arise, from collecting and preserving food to distributing it fairly and efficiently. Therefore, close cooperation from partners and stakeholders is crucial to support the Ha Nam Food Bank, sharing experiences and resources, and adopting new methods to enhance operational efficiency.”.

On this occasion, the Vietnam Food Bank and the Ha Nam Red Cross Society also donated 50 gift packages (each valued at 500,000 VND) to victims of Agent Orange.
